A Swedish education in the heart of Maputo
Where learning is rooted in community, structure, creativity and care, with a special attention to languages. Students are welcomed from preschool class through grade 9, following the Swedish curriculum.
What makes our school special
Age groups and levels
We practice mixed-age classrooms with extensive individual teacher support. We assist high school students through distance learning.
Swedish curriculum
We follow the Swedish national curriculum (Lgr 22), adopted in our international setting. We are regulated and approved by the Swedish school agency.
Curriculum pillars
Because of our international context, we put special emphasis on English and Swedish. Further fields include math, science and practical subjects.
Community and care
We emphasise inclusion, respect and cooperation in a tight-knit school community. Key values include equality and transparency.

A day at our school
From morning greetings to afternoon creativity, each day at our school is thoughtfully structured and full of heart.
Our youngest students in ‘preschool class’ experience a structured but less demanding introductory year, to ease into the responsibilities of going to school. As kids grow and progress, expectations gradually increase. Older students take on deeper projects, longer study blocks and help guide their junior friends.
Recesses are filled with play and guided activities and we all eat a home cooked lunch together outdoors, near the pool.
On Fridays, the school closes early, at 12:45, making it easy for families looking to escape the city for a weekend away.
Throughout the year, we build community through shared assemblies and cultural celebrations. We even do school camps in nature twice a year.
Academic approach
Individualised learning
We tailor teaching to meet each student’s level and needs. Whether that means receiving extra support or progressing further in a subject of interest, our small classes and dedicated teachers ensure every child fulfils their potential.
Rooted in values
We focus on academic growth as well as social and emotional well-being. Through shared activities, inclusive classrooms and respectful dialogue, we foster a school environment where every student feels safe, valued and heard.
Beyond the classroom
Learning happens everywhere. From swimming and football to school camps, theatre and robotics, our activities help students grow in confidence, creativity and collaboration. Regular field trips help to broaden our students’ perspectives.
Homework without headaches
When in school, students have access to the best possible resources. That’s why we value a longer school day. Conversely, we believe homework is a tool best used for repetition, not for learning new things. Tired brains don’t need extra headache.
‘As parents of four children enrolled at the school – some in preschool and others in the main school – we have experienced firsthand the warmth and dedication that define this community. We truly appreciate the personal approach and the genuine care shown by the teachers, who know each child as an individual. The welcoming environment and excellent facilities create a strong foundation for learning, and we especially value the Scandinavian approach to education. It gives us great confidence to see our children happy, supported, and thriving each day. We can definitely recommend the Scandinavian school!’
Sidsel and Victor
‘Our son and daughter were 4 and 7 when we moved from Stockholm to Maputo. They settled in straight away and genuinely love coming to school. They often want to be dropped off early in the morning so they can play before class - the football field, monkey bars, climbing hut and sandpit are all favorites! We also enjoy being able to use the pool and facilities in the weekends. The location in Polana works really well for us since it's close to the office and home, and we don't have to compete with traffic. In class the kids get to work on lots of different and creative projects that keep them engaged. And the bi-annual school camp has been a fantastic opportunity for them to gain confidence and broaden their perspective, while having a total blast with their friends.’
